Kindle

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum. I just bought a Kindle. I've bought a cd off EBay with lots of books on. Loaded the books onto my PC, plugged in the Kindle, copied some of the books onto the Kindle. They show up on the Kindle file but when I switch on the Kindle they don't appear to be there. Can anyone advise?
Thanks

The books need to be in Kindle format, are they?

PS There are loads of free Kindle books on the Amazon site.

  • Download calibre (free software) organise your books and convert them to mobi format, send to device using the software.

    They should appear.

Theye are supposed to be ready to read, no conversion needed. The seller had 100% feedback and lots of sales.
Just looked at the files but it doesn't say what type. I've downloaded Calibre. Will try that. Thanks very much

Just a note but have you registered the kindle with Amazon?

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/digital/fiona/manage/ref=ya__73

If you have wireless set up you can email the book to your kindle and amazon will convert it to a PDF for you.

  • Incidentally, what you bought from eBay was probably either a collection of out-of-copyright stuff which you could have downloaded free of charge from Project Gutenburg, or (if it is current stuff) an illegal collection of DRM-stripped files.

Thanks, got this now. Tried dragging and dropping files into Calibre but it won't work. The only way I seem to be able to do it is one by one.
    Thanks

I suspect you mean the Kindle can't see your Virgin router?

Remember passcodes are usually case sensitive.

Either way round. It isn't asking for a passcode.
