PC World Collect@store failings

Options
Just reserevd a TV on-line for collect @ store. Called to find when they close today - told 17:00.
Went to the store - they close at 16:30 but fortunately I was there in time.
They had already looked and the tv wasn't in the showroom but they would look upstairs. Wasn't there so was out of stock. "Sorry sir but that's bad luck".

Called customer services. No collect@store doesn't mean the item is in stock even if the on-line system says it is, it says this in the terms and conditions.

I looked on-line and it's still saying the item is available in that store. Customer services said there must be a problem with the store system.

t's and C's
"In the unlikely event that the goods are not available we will do everything we can to get the product from another PC World store or find you an acceptable alternative."

Don't think it's unlikely and I wasn't offered an alternative and they didn't try any other store.

I'm not so annoyed about the wasted trip but more about the attitude that I should expect this and they shouldn't be concerned about it. Also that the system doesn't get updated.
They also had my phone number and could have called when they realised they didn'y have it and I could have gone elsewhere.

In PC World they have a collect at store area. If you wait an hour after ordering it should be there waiting for you. That's the main reason I use it (and getting the on-line discount and quidco cashback).
  • I've used it twice, and tbh it's hopeless! They don't set the item aside for you, and both times the staff member has had to ask me what the item looks like, price etc so they can find it!! It's ridiculous that they dont know their own stock and cant be bothered to learn. hate the place with a passion

Obviously different service in different stores - I've used it several times in 2 stores without a glitch. They pick the stock and keep it at the customer services/repairs desk.

Just after christmas I fancied a PSP and looked around for the best deal, I found the viking offer of a base psp for £111 but I didn't fancy the faffing with vouchers & waiting for delivery, so I went with PC World using collect@store.

The offer was PSP value pack with RidgeRacer 2 for £142.99, which was quite good as ridgeracer was selling for £30.

I reserved online @ the Liverpool Speke store and set off from Preston (40 miles).

When I got there I stood in a que for a hour, and then finally produced my number, he said that they had no value packs or ridge racer & the website was playing up again.

I wasn't best pleased, as I thought the whole point of it was to ensure the stock is reserved for you.

I asked whether they had any psp's, they said they had the base version. I suggested they let me have the base version & take off £30 for the game & £13 for the memory stick.

They agreed so in the end I got the PSP on its own for £99.

So in some ways it does work when PC World can't organise a p**s up in a brewery.

  • I had a massive rant at this system a long time ago in the vent board.

Ordered an £80 laptop bag for £25 collect@Store. Got there and was told there was none left but they could offer me an alternative that the manager authed.

The alternative was cheap plastic rubbish that they said they'd give me at the same price for £25 on this occasion! I had an argument with the sales guy saying instead of £25 for a leather laptop case he's trying to give me a cheaper one for the same price? I then said that was a completley unfair offer and for someone who doesnt know much about these products they couldbe conned out of their cash!

Big argument. Walked out in the end. Drove 40 mins to another store and got it there instead!

Got the TV from Curry's instead.
Collect at store again. Called them before I went but their on-line staff couldn't get through to the store but they were registering 6 in stock which is good enough for me (it's worth calling to see how many items there are).
The enthusiastic salesman Jamie couldn't have been more helpful.

Funny thing is Curry's and PC world are both owned by Dixons group and these two stores were next to each other - PC World could have picked one up from next door - or told me to go there if they hadn't kept me waiting until both had closed.

No they couldn't have just picked up one from next door, yes they are part of the same group of companies but operate totally independently :)
