I feel like a bit of a tit...

I'm a Vodafone contract customer and a few months ago lost my phone, so I bought a £30 Payt nokia from Tesco, only to find I couldn't use my contract sim as it was locked to prepay only (GID lock), and Vodafone refused to unlock it for me! Grrrrrrr.

A couple of weeks ago I decided I wanted a better phone, and bought the Sagem my600v of the Vodafone website. Before I did, I phoned up and they confirmed a contract sim would work in it.

Received the phone a few days ago.... sim didn't worked. Needless to say I was not impressed. After queuing, the first agent said they needed to check my sim was registered (?) and as I was calling off my mobile I had to redial. This time the signal went just after I got through. So on my 3rd attempt and after nearly half an hour trying to sort this out, I was tamping. The 3rd agent I spoke to was a lovely lass, apologised and said I must be 'one of the unlucky ones' (?) and would try to get my phone unlocked. After a few minutes she came back and said they would have to send off for an unlock code, it would take up to 14 days. I made it pretty clear I was unhappy with this but as there was nothing further they could do, I left it at that.

Well, last night I put a payt sim into the phone to play around with it and it was still saying 'sim not present'. Tried a different payt sim, same problem. Turned the sim the other way round... worked a treat. Had a sudden thought, put my contract sim in the other way round... hey presto, worked like a charm! What a muppet.

I feel a bit guilty because I gave them merry hell on the phone (particularly as I work in a call centre too!) but on the bright side I should be getting a free unlock code shortly.

I've thanked the OP because at least he was completely honest!

We've all done similar with one thing or another in the past.

  • I did something similar-I put the nokia battery in wrong side facing. We have all made mistakes. Made me smile-nice to know I'm not alone.
