Carpet or laminate flooring?

in my first house we put down laminate flooring as it was all the craze. we are moving to our new house next week (fingers crossed) and we are going to kit out the house in warm soft carpets for a more luxiourous feel. i can not wait.
while laminate gives a clean appearance we now prefer carpets.
it a personal choice really. What ever you like yourself.0 -
I personally have laminate through out my downstairs (thank you to my landlord for putting it in for me) and I have carpet upstairs barr the bathroom which is tiled. I like the feel of carpet in a bedroom, and I dont allow any food or drinks upstairs so no spillages! Also if there is laminate upstairs you hear every foot step that somebody takes, which is a pet hate of mine and is worse than someone scrapping there fingernails down a blackboard
I hope you get a good deal whichever you decide to get

We have no carpet in our house. With my two boys carpet would soon look grotty. Main reason though is that me and boys suffer asthma so it cuts down on dust mites. I also only have blinds not curtains.

carpet. but why worry about how it may affect the value?? are you selling so soon ? its your house to do what you want - not to worry about what the next buyer may or maynot like.
carpet does get dirty so decide on colour well. i find laminate is noisy and not quite as comforting/homely feel.
if you are selling really i would not have thought it would make too much of a difference in price. would not loose too much sleep over it as long as it looks fine.
each to their own.
caps lock not working tonight sorry.0 -
We had cream carpet in our flat and it was a nightmare my mum said when we brought it oh you won't be able to keep it clean and boy was she right despite me shouting at everyone when they came in to take their shoes off!!!
In our new house we have laminate and I wasn't keen at first but I'm coming round now it is much better for me as like the poster above said I have a dust mite allergy so laminate greatly helps to keep it under control.House purchase completed 6th December whole process took 4 months.
Hang in there everyone it is worth it0 -
Apparently (or so I have read) laminate flooring devalues your house by between 2%. The house I'm moving in to has laminate flooring however and it didn't really put me off. I am planning on replacing it with carpet however.0

This purely IMO .....! Great link, & I know the above is all facts & figures, but I still disagree! But then I would, only place I have carpet is on my stairs & landing!!! To be fair, our house is what you would call a FTB house anyway, & looking back, this would have been so much more appealing to us.
I am in the future you know...

We tiled our whole ground floor. Something that is common in continental Europe but less so here (although increasing). We did it around 5 years ago. It wasnt that more expensive than a quality carpet and we would have to replace the carpet in the future. With the tiles, you dont have that problem. Tiles are also cleaner and better for your health than carpets.
I had never thought about tiling throughout the house until I saw it in someone elses house.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). exactly we have just done. Paid £500.00 for a decent carpet in the hall way and our lounge is the original flooring so I don;t mind that. Kids and the main room to go to the kitchen so this is a must for us.
Just can't stand the cheap version of the laminate. It's ssssoooo 1999.
Don;t to you what you decide though.:A Tomorrow's just another day - keep smiling0
