I had a plain white box I bought off confetti. I literally wrapped a wide pink ribbon around mine and tied in a bow on top with the ends hanging down. I them printed a card with the names and wedding date and 'Thank you for all your kind gifts and cards', which I then stuck to the front of the box. I also did a heart stamp on this the same as on all my stationary.
I kept it simple and it did look good! Sorry no pics as flickr has locked me out of my account...0 -

i got an ordinary cardboard box, cut out a slot for the post,
covered it in wrapping paper & ribbons that matched our scheme and made a sign that matched all our other signs
and it looked like this.....
