Looking at it another way. If it keeps breaking down it costs you money to fix it and then loss of earnings waiting in for a repair. That makes more sense. How much do you spend on bills? You will only save about £80 (13.33%) a year upgrading your 78% efficient boiler to one which is 90% assuming you use an average amount of gas. (£600 per year-16,500kWh). This will cost you £1,829. Is it worth it? No. I'd wait until the boiler cannot be repaired any more.
I would try and make them last the full 15 years that has been estimated.
Way up your opinions , I changed a 2 year old boiler in my house because I didn't want the hassle of it breaking down all the time.
I have changed lots of boilers that are less than 10 years old, mainly because the customers are fed up of them breaking.X British Gas engineer and X BG sales adviser.

Don't want to highjack the thread but we need a new boiler sooner rather than later. We currently have a Baxi back boiler in our house (built in 1993) is there much benefit from having all new pipework or would a "power flush" be as good?...We are expecting to replace some single radiators with doubles..0
