I'd go with the Worcester but I have a question the baxi you have is how old exactly? I can't see many that are older than 6 years. What happened to it to write it off so quickly?

Edit: just been reading your previous thread from June. I still can't believe the Baxi is beyond economical repair over a few leaks. It's threads like this that make me want to stay away from fixing my gas central heating. 6 years at £1829 is £300 a year. There is no way I could afford to do that so often so I'll stick with my broken boiler and continue to use electricity for heating and hot water.

The Baxi is approximatley 9/10 years old and has had various faults on it since being installed. most recently we have found that when the conservatory was built they plastered over the pressure release valve which has damaged the plaster board in my conservatory. The boiler could be repaired i've had quite a few engineers out to look at it over the last couple of months. It is due a service this next month and needs a new filler tap as this is leaking, some type of plate is cracked (I can't remember what its called sorry) and when serviced will need to be replaced and also it water leaking from along the front of the combi. During the Winter the radiator in the loft never gets warm and the boiler when working has developed a rattly noisy and our hot water never gets hot even with the temperature dial onthe front of the boiler being turned up to max.

When I purchased my house I knew the boiler would need replacing sometime in the near future and as my conservatory is having to have a new floor and new plaster boards fitted due to flood damage and the cost of the service and repairs it requires to keep it going a bit longer now seems an ideal time to do it.

Otherwise instead of the new condensing pipe running along the wall it can be protected and run under the conservatory floor avoiding any further damage to the new walls or floor tiles which could occur if I wait until the boiler breaks down.

I hope this makes sense and I really appreciate your advice!

It's not 10 years old. The oldest Baxi 80 HE's I can find were installed in 2005 only 6 years ago. Does the boiler have a date on it? Potterton and Baxi are the same so if you don't like the Baxi then avoid the Potterton as it is the same boiler as you already have.

This link shows they were first manufactured in 2004 http://www.gasboilers.info/?namedboiler=10109&boilername=Baxi%20Combi%20Instant%2080%20HE

And this is the link for the Potterton Gold you are considering first manufactured in 2005 and 2% more efficient than your current boiler saving you about £20 a year on your gas bills http://www.gasboilers.info/?namedboiler=10556&boilername=Potterton%20Gold%2033%20HE

I'd get insurance to cover repair costs rather than replace it.

I'll dig the paperwork out tomorrow to confirm date boiler was fitted, I understood it was approx 2002/2003- it appears not if they werent manufactured until 2004!

You can tell by the serial number.. Normally tells you year and week it was made. Think it is first 2 numbers for year then next 2 for week.

Are you sure you actually have the 80 HE combi and not the combi 80, or combi 80 eco?

Still shouldn't really need replacing yet. But quote is ok if you decide to.

That makes more sense. How much do you spend on bills? You will only save about £80 (13.33%) a year upgrading your 78% efficient boiler to one which is 90% assuming you use an average amount of gas. (£600 per year-16,500kWh). This will cost you £1,829. Is it worth it? No. I'd wait until the boiler cannot be repaired any more.

I would try and make them last the full 15 years that has been estimated.
