but for a five year old it's quite good, I would rather pay £5.99 for this than £50+ for a proper one or portable dvd player.
for a teenager or adult I agree but for a young one it's perfect, they do not need anything too technical/high tech or expensive0 -
Are they worth buying just for the 32MB SD card and an SD Card reader?0

I disagree - my son (8 years) has one (cost £14.99) and
1) Film - Forget it! Argos has limited selection and US titles are still expensive (see fleabay). Most titles will only be played once.
2) Mp3 - OK. Mono speaker but good sound from headphones. It will not handle higher sampling rates so I use Audacity to 'convert' mp3s that are recorded at higher rates - the ripper supplied will rip cds at the correct rate. Son has a good Crazy Frog selection
3) Photos - OK - easy to download and my lad really likes his portable slideshow.
£5 for a first mp3 player for a computer savvy 7/8/9 year old is hard to beat . . .0 -
A few questions:
Can you use your own sd card and put your own mp3/jpeg/video on it?
What is the maximum size it will take?
What format of video files does it play?0 -
I bought 1 of these when they were £14.99 for my 4 yr old ,only problem with them is getting the cartridges.I've had it 6 months & only got 2(1 free with it & starter kit,& 1 just bought in sale) not many titles to choose from in Argos though.
Ideal though for keeping small hands from ipods etc..BARGAINADDICT

I still can't get over the fact there original selling price was around £80 just for the player on it's own0

I picked one of these up today. Got them to check the cartridges. They only had 2 in stock - both "Kids next door".
I have loaded a couple of mp3s to try and they play fine, however, I have not managed to get it to display any JPEGs. Do they have to be a particular resolution or put into a sub-directory or something?[size=-2] If this post was unhelpful, please tell me.
