Tethered blackberry PAYG

Dear all, have a battered old blackberry I have reactived with Orange, husband in hospital following stroke desperate to access the internet. Old fashioned cottage hospital 'internet access .. what's that?'. Established though there is quite a good signal, so have laptop plus the battered blackberry, I have set it up with an Orange PAYG blackberry package for him. My question is: does the tethering come out of the package or is it separately charged? I can connect ok.

If this is not the best way to do it, advice would be welcome, he only wants to check his email and read The Guardian for a few minutes a day.
