Hijack this log - Can anyone help quicken up very slow laptop?

If things are that slow, then at worst you could always reinstall/restore to factory defaults - as long as everything important is backed up.

If it's old, then a defrag might actually help. I don't routinely recommend them as they are often a huge investment of time compared to the result. Saying that, there are times when they do significantly help - but they are the last thing to do.

MyDefrag has a 'system monthy' option, which defrags and 'optimises' the location of files for extra speed. Takes a long time to finish, e.g. overnight.

Defraggler is just a simple, plain defragger. Takes less time, but doesn't try to 'optimise' anything. Here is the portable version:

I've done most of those apart from the superantispyware at the moment. I even ticked the proxy overide thing in hijack this even though I wasnt sure where it was from, just don't like the overide thing. I havent done the java yet, just a bit worried if it will effect programs

The cftmon kept coming back but got rid of it through control panel regional languages way. Quicktime is a constant problem it continually comes back no matter where you disable it from.

I've downloaded the longest defrag program and will try that, its a small hardrive so hoping it will not be quite as long

The brother one keeps coming back on the hijack log , I couldnt delete it. I got rid of all the facebook stuff

You can uninstall the Brother from Add/Remove programs probably.

If you uninstall Java, the worst that will happen is that a program says "hey! I needed that", and you just install it again It's no biggie.

You can uninstall Quicktime, I can't remember the last time I needed it. Again, at worst, just reinstall it. Alternatively, there should be an option in the Control Panel > Quicktime to stop it running.

Disable script debugging is ticked in internet options but there is another one that says disable script debugging 'other' which isnt ticked, should I have them both ticked?

I did instal startuplight earlier today and disabled quicktime and cftmon but they both still came back until I disabled cftmon in control panel, qtime still the same

Go to Run and type in run box, msconfig , and then enter, go to startup, and tick disable all, when asked restart the laptop.
this will disable any programs thats running constantly in windows, even though you probably dont need them to.
if there is any programs you need at start up, tick them to enable them.

If you have a java icon in control panel, click it, advanced, misc - untick java quick starter, and untick place icon in system tray

Yes I havent had chnce to remove them yet. I was just looking in add remove programs and I'm not sure why but the malwarebytes in there says last used on 22 may 2009 which isnt right and its the only one in there. Also under it is something that says malwareremovalbot by antispyware llc which says also that it was used on 22 may 2009.

I will swap zonealarm for windows firewall will that be okfor winxp?
