Electron Card and Aer Lingus

I am trying to book flights with my Electron Card on the Aer Lingus site.
It kept telling me to contact my card provider which I have done and they say everything there end is fine sand there is no reason the card won't work.
I googled the problem and found this (#2) http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=73906238
has anyone else had this problem? I wonder if it is there way of getting people to use a fee charging card?

Well having spoken again to the Coop, they told me their Electron card is no longer an Electron but now just a visa debit card, apparantly they are phasing out the Electron. So although mine says Electron it isn't! When I asked them why they hadn't informed me they said it was Visa not them!!!???
I also rang Aer Lingus and they said a lot of people were having this problem and that it has to go through as a Visa debit card, which of course incurs a handling fee. Not fair and I shall be closing my Coop account!0 -
Annoying. I have just got myself a Halifax Easycash a/c with Visa Electron card.
Just booked a flight with Aer Lingus; at the payment stage there appeared to be no financial advantage to using Visa Electron, even when I selected Visa Electron as the card type, the price stayed the same. So I (thought I) had to swallow the £24 handling charge for 2 return flights & so used my Capital One credit card in order to at least get my 1% cashback.
Now that I check the Aer Lingus Ts & Cs (should have done that before pressing "submit", d'oh) it clearly states that Visa Electron avoids the £6 per sector charge. Again: annoying, they are verging on dishonesty in their website design if you ask me.
Still, just booked an EasyJet flight & saved £8 there. You live & learn.0 -
Just thought I'd let you know I complained to the coop and although it has taken all this time I have finally had a letter back from them today reimbursing me fees. They also said in their letter and I quote:
"I appreciate this may have been something you were unaware of, as we didn't specifically notify card holders of this change".
So worth complaining if this has happened to you.0 -
I applied for an Easycash account on Monday, my card has just come ( Saturday ) expiry 2015, I have just used it to book an Airlingus flight to Ireland , it was quite straightforward, it shows the price for other cards and Electron which avoids the £12 handling fee, all proceeds with the higher price until the card type is selected, at that point the £12 vanishes, I hope this continues as I visit ROI several times a year0

I too have just in the last week opened a Halifax Easycash bank account for the sole purpose of saving the fees associated with some airlines.
It was an exceptionally easy process. I registered for internet banking immediately. Basically, from opening the account online, to receiving the card, pin number and online banking username, took 7 working days. I have a normal LloydsTSB current account which I can transfer money via faster payment to the Easycash account in literally seconds, it is that quick.
I have already had the benefit of the Electron card by booking two seats with one of our very well known domestic airlines and saving the fees associated with paying by debit or credit card. In fact, the saving I've made has almost covered the cost of travel insurance and 5 days car parking.
If you haven't already got one, get one!0 -
I notice that when applying for a Halifax Easycash account now it gives the following
Debit Card Our Easycash Account comes with a Halifax Visa debit card you can use in over 500,000 places in the UK, 27 million outlets worldwide and online.
Have they stopped doing Electron cards with the Easycash account now?0 -

Yes, just to confirm, I have just received the rare beast that is an Electron card and I'm very, very happy with it!0
