In my local paper I have read about a scheme being started by a buisnessman to sell petrol at 35 p a litre. You need to register at a cost of £100. He is calling it the motor vehicle protection organisation. He claims it can be tax free as profits are used to fund research. Does anyone know anything about this?

Sounds like a right scam to me
The duty & vat on a litre of fuel is around 75p
so how he can sell it for 35p is beyond me.
Would you hand over £100 to find out cos I certainly would NOT

No, I am reluctant to hand it over. He claims he doesn't have to pay tax as the profits are going to motoring research. There was quite a big article about it in local paper, so I suspect trading standards may intervene if it is dodgy.

Me to, when I bought my first car in 1974, I could buy 3 GALLONS of petrol for 30p/gallon, and a paper for 6p and still had change from a quid!!

    Those were the days!

We'd all love fuel for 35p a litre. The only way its gonna happen though is if you buy an old Passat TD and start pouring vegetable oil into it without telling Mr Brown. I believe the man behind this ludicrous scam (sorry, sheme) was exposed recently on Scottish TV as having links to fraud crimes in the past. Its worrying that so many publications have unwittingly been duped into running articles about it or running the comical two page ad inviting membership applications. It just goes to show...the bigger the lie, the more publicity. I won't reveal any more info on these people just in case someone might fall for it. Straight theft, plain and simple....avoid.

Any more info? Is it a regular forecourt where you can pump it straight into the car or one of those places where you have to buy a minimum quantity?
