Oh Counting Pennies you reminded me vividly of a five day stop over in Fiji on my way to New Zealand. Similar small island where the very small plane landed on the beach and our luggage was driven by tractor to our bure right on the beach.

Friendliest people in the world, nothing too much trouble and no tips expected. In fact when I left something for the maid on the table I found it on top of my luggage when I went for the plane back to the mainland.

To anyone intending flying to New Zealand or Austrailia I would recommend it as a stop over :)
Stayed at Fiji and Raratonga on the way to NZ, loved them both. Its a long way though for a couple of weeks. I'd recommend the Maldives too, its all about budgets.

Raratonga is a fabulous place. I hired a scooter and had to take a test which basically involved riding in a straight line. The island's small and kidney shaped. Biggest decision of the day whether to go clockwise or anti clockwise.

Did the same, hired a moped out, was most fun!! Also if you get a chance, check out the jet stream area by the airport when a plane takes off or lands!!

Afraid not we tagged the stay in Fiji on route back from a round the world trip. The £1500 was the accommodation and food only for the three of us. So it was more than we normally spend for a holiday but wanted to spoil ourselves after budgeting our way round the other countries!

El Gouna in Egypt is the most idyllic place i have ever found. more details here https://www.elgouna.com. be warned the website does not do the place justice.

You fly in to Hurghada (from Manchester / Gatwick) and it's about 45 mins transfer at the Egypt end.

    MTC

p.s. if you'd like me to go an length about why i like it so much drop me a pm

went there in January this year. Very nice - not like Egypt at all! the only bit not too good was the beach area and a long walk out over the corals to get to the deep water. Personally preferred Tobago for a great hol - especially the AI @ Grand Courlon hotel

Not quite far flung, but equally lovely (in my view anyway) is the Pembroke coast in Wales. Great beaches.
