I stayed in the most fabulous place in Fiji. The island is called Castaway and it was paradise.
I can't remember exactly but I think there were approx 50 bures on the whole island, with staff out numbering guests by 200%.
The bure we stayed on was a couple of feet from the beach where you had a private hammock and sun loungers and shade. The beach was combed each morning. There is a fridge in your room so if you don't want to get up from the beach for food during the day you can bring back a hamper from breakfast and store it there. Once a day someone will pass by your bure to ask if you want any soft drinks for the day. So apart from that intrusion you can be totally remote from anyone if you choose or alternatively take a stroll round the island and stop off at any hammock with a book for a change of scenery or a dip in their shaded pool.
The island has the option of scubadiving training which half of the guests seem to do all day. So there are so few guests actually on the island.
If you have children they have nannies and childrens clubs all day. The children are taken to the middle of the island where it is cooler and also away from disturbing the adults. Older children have programmes running from 9am until 7pm, nannies are available at any point of the day or evening for just £1 per hour.
The shop on the island can order virtually anything in for you to arrive on the boat the next day.
The food in the restaurants is free if you book for more than 6 nights, and there is a separate pizza bar if you get bored with sitting in the same place. There's a wide range of watersports available. The boats also take you off the island for island hopping if you want to.
As a treat we also flew to and from the island on a sea plane which was the best plane ride I have ever had in my life.
The above all sounds expensive, and yes it was more than our standard happy clappy highclass Butlins type resort we have been to in the past when we go abroad, but we were in paradise, and cost £1500 for three of us to stay for a week.
Worth checking out if you are interested in going to Fiji.0 -

El Gouna in Egypt is the most idyllic place i have ever found. more details here https://www.elgouna.com. be warned the website does not do the place justice.
You fly in to Hurghada (from Manchester / Gatwick) and it's about 45 mins transfer at the Egypt end.

Oh Counting Pennies you reminded me vividly of a five day stop over in Fiji on my way to New Zealand. Similar small island where the very small plane landed on the beach and our luggage was driven by tractor to our bure right on the beach.
Friendliest people in the world, nothing too much trouble and no tips expected. In fact when I left something for the maid on the table I found it on top of my luggage when I went for the plane back to the mainland.
To anyone intending flying to New Zealand or Austrailia I would recommend it as a stop over
