  • I would steer clear of Craig Tara. I have seen thousands of people over the last couple of years who attend this place on a regular basis and I would not want to be near any of them on holiday - they are be a complete nightmare and have absolutely no respect for anyone around them at all.

I'm not saying that these people should not have holidays like everyone else or that nightmare folk are not in every destination but the volume that they seem to descend on Craig Tara in would make me steer clear personally.

Dumfries and Galloway is a beautiful area. Southerness Holiday park has expanded over the year and has great indoor facilities for the kids. Not sure about the outdoor facilities these days. Also not sure what Burrowhead and Auchenlarie are like as I have never been to either of them but Auchenlaire is right beside the A75 Euroroute and those not used to the noise may find it a struggle to sleep with the noise of the wagons flying past 24/7.

Wherever you decide to go - Enjoy!

We went to seton sands in sep 05 and it was much better than craig tara. It was smaller but cleaner, staff were friendlier. The entertainment venue was quite small in relation to size of park, but if you get there early enough you should be fine. They also have afternoon childrens entertainment and even though there was one day that it was only my hubby, son and me they still carried on and did the storytelling which was nice.
  • :T thanks for that chergar, have nearly decided to go to seton sands, was just wondering if you could help me with a cpl answers..is there an outdoor play area for kids/and or an indoor? apart from the planned entertainment is there plenty for kids to do, as its just a short break we dont really plan to leave the park area if we dont have to. Am i correct in assuming theres the usual haven hol park things for kids...i.e. swim pool, amusement arcades, but what about football pitch, go-karts etc...sorry to pick ur brains like this but any info will be gratefully received. Many thanks

Seton sands does have all the usual haven things - swimming pool amusement arcade etc, also it has a play park with swings, climbing frame, slide etc. as my oldest is just nearly 4 we didn't check to see if it had gokarts or football pitch. I know you said you wanted to spend most of the time at the site but the beach is literally just across the road. also, I know you have specified Scotland but if you really want lots on a site I would suggest Haggerston Castle - it is just over the border (about 6 miles) and it has loads and loads on it. Check out the haven website for more information on facilities or if you want to ask anything else no problem. HTH.
