hope you don't mind me adding the prizes weeowens,
thing is a lot of comps are being posted without the prize details just lately,
when the comps finished the site doesn't always show the details of the prize won,
would be good if everyone listed the prizes as we do in the mag threads so peeps can see the prizes/how many on offer etc
sometimes makes it easier to search if won

i understand you proberly want to be the first to post the comp but it would be nice if you could add the prize details as well

Hi,firefly.I hope you didn't feel my reply was rude,as it was not meant to be in any way at all. That's often the problem with forum posts,as many of us have said before.Quick, short post can be misconstrued.
I'm in no rush when I post a comp,if someone posts before me I usually spot it on the page refresh of page one that I generally do before posting.Posting a few more terms/prize details will not slow the posting too much.
Yes,I do often post prizes & terms but probably on this comp the long list of individual prizes put me off posting in line with MSE rules.I cannot seem to find the post from MSE admin but it was asked that we do not extract long pieces of text from sites.
On the holiday comps etc, rightly or wrongly,I tend to link to the terms & post edited terms of the relevant bits.Of course this is just my view of what is relevant but if others wish to post more of the terms I'm not going to get the high horse out. Some sites make mention of storing details or sending SMS messages eg "This is London" so I tend to post more of the terms as I feel members need to be aware of the implications in entering their details.Others such as "Time Out" have general terms that remain constant so I tend to only post the comp specific terms.
Some members of MSE habitually post the full terms as a second post on threads. That's fine with me but just not my personal way.I'm not saying that I'm 100% correct ,just my personal choice.
Other members do not post short or full terms at all or details of the prize. That's their choice & up to the membership to post any other details that they feel warrant posting.
eg here

Just a few I've picked out & I do not mean any fault with with the posts whatsoever
It's a bit like when we post,we all post in a certain way ,that is often quite distinctive.I usually start the post with the site name as a " clicky" & do other things that are individual.Other members posts have their own style that marks them out, name changes or not.
When you mention the mag threads it is slightly different as you are able to post in a way that it is not directly lifted and is less liable to copywrite issues.
As I said no offence was meant I hope none was taken.I fully expect one of the more able searchers amongst us to quote a few threads where I have deviated from the above style but hey-ho.0 -
hi, no offence was taken,
all i'm saying is there seems to be a lot of comps just lately posted without a brief description of the prize/s in the body of the op,
the thing is once the comps closed & someone's won, if search finds the post they've won from sometimes the site has taken the prize details from the page so it's hard to know all the prize details,
i know there's no 'rules' as such but all i was saying it would be nice if ops just put a brief description of the prize/s, just to help when the comps closed,
as you say it doesn't take long to paste/copy the t&c's etc
so a couple of seconds to paste/copy the prize details would be helpful,
just my humble opinion,
obviously as no-one else has said anything about listing the prize/s
or rather the lack of them it doesn't seem to matter to them.please be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.

Hi guys
You're both right in different ways.
On the one hand we ask that people be careful not to breach copyright by copying large chunks of information from other sites (the details are in the Forum Rules linked to at the top of the forum).
On the other, though, having the terms and conditions posted in a thread is always handy in case someone wants to refer back to them later, eg if they've been removed from the competition site.
I think it just comes down to each person's personal preference and the nature of the competition being posted, but still remembering not to breach copyright.
Andrea
