Tell them that you believe you have a faulty meter on your premises, and that you fear for the safety of yourself and your property.

After all, you are not an expert, and a meter which is faulty in one way could be (or go) faulty in another way. If you have reached £0.00 credit and the gas is still flowing, then it seems like some kind of solenoid / delivery valve has stuck open, and that is a faulty component inside a gas meter which is compromising its correct operation.

Ring them and push the HSE aspect of this faulty meter, you may find attitudes change. Its often those who shout the loudest who get the most attention....

Why were you paying someone else's bill for a period before you moved in? This makes no sense. Assuming you registered for a supply as soon as you moved in, any previous debts are nothing to do with you.
Any debt since you moved in is, whether the meter is functioning or not.

I'm not sure if the numbers have changed I don't really know what it all means to be honest.

If you have access to the meter, make a note of any numbers displayed, check it in a few days to see if they are any different.

Whatever, they need to look at the meter

I wondered why my bills where so high and they realised I was paying a debt from the previous tenant even though I had notified them of my details when I first moved in. I have no idea why. Their mistake not mine.

As you can see in my post if you had read it properly you will see I noticed after a few weeks.

To everyone else, I had them come out to FIX the meter, but the person who came obviously didn't. I've rang them to tell them that I haven't paid for gas for months only for someone to come and read the meter and thats it NOTHING its still the same.

What more can I possibly do than what I have done already. Unless I am speaking to them in a different language, this is not my fault. Its not as if I have hidden it and tried to get away with it I have told them. But you're making me out to be some thicko who hadn't got a clue.
Apologies..it is not my intent to make you out to be a thicko. As you will know, discussions in forums are sometimes subjected to lengthy examination and I'll admit that sometimes readers just dont read or unintentionally filter bits of the postings. It appears your meter is knack'd and needs replacing as it may be stuck open and it will then indicate "call help" and £0.00 credit but will in all probability, still clock up volume of gas used. This means that you can still add credit and it will still deduct money from the credit you add. If you dont add credit whilst it is still faulty, then at some future point when you do add credit,it will deduct big amounts of money. Alternatively, when the meter is changed, the volume used whilst it is at fault will be added as debt.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
