£66 for RAC cover for home and recovery.

£40.40 cashback if purchased via TopCashback.

Make sure you do the same next year, but via The AA.

(Even with lease cars, you usually get a free year of breakdown cover though. I would double check)

So because off the top of my head I mention one of the MSE recommended breakdown services I get asked if I work for them.

You didn't mention "one of the MSE recommended services", you posted with "the" MSE recommended service, when there actually isn't a single MSE recommended service at all!

The OP is looking for a cheap service!

Do you think this is necessary considering it is a new car?

I would get it. I've seen lots of cars under 4 years old with steam coming out of them when traffic has been really slow on motorways.

A lot of it is probably due to people not performing their basic car checks every week. Plus there are certain things you don't want to be doing on the hard shoulder of the motorway.

Just get one of the cheap ones already suggested.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

I use first call which gives full cover (home start, relay etc) but doesn't cover running out of fuel or keys locked in the vehicle.

I go for the £42.50 per year option. I've only ever had to call them out once and they were great on that occasion.

They are the last on the MSE list of recommendations
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)
  • I would check the terms of your lease first. It may actually stipulate what to do if it breaks down - like who to call whilst you are stuck at the roadside.

Thanks all, I'll definitely check with the lease company first and see if it is included or if they stipulate what to do in case of a breakdown. If not then I'll look at getting it myself.

I'll be honest and say I don't do the 'weekly checks' so I am going to try and get into the habit of doing it. My partner thinks I should learn how to change a tyre - what does he think I am superwoman? :rotfl:

If you shop at Tesco you can use your 3x vouchers for RAC cover.
