If you are going to sell on Ebay you would be advised to look through their restrictions on what you're allowed to sell first.

    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/perfumes-cosmetics.html

For instance 'testers' that a shop would have on their displays are not allowed.

You could also try your local general auction house. My local one quite often has job lots of old shop stock that people buy to sell on. The only problem with selling job-lots to other sellers is as you've already noted they need to make a profit as well so you will need to price your goods with that in mind.

The only other thing you may need to be aware of, and I'm surprised no one has mentioned it, but if you received the cosmetics as samples for a blog and you're doing the blog on a commercial basis then the tax man may consider you to be running a business and you should be registered as sell employed.

With Christmas only 4 months away why not make them up as gift baskets - possibly sell ok at car boot.
  • Thanks guys.

Yeah I think I should be ok with the tax thing as the blog doesn't make any money.

I like the idea of making up gift baskets for Christmas, that could work well. Perhaps I should just try a few different things and see what works.

Facebook... ebay as a job lot but they are weird about beauty things; e.g. I sold an eyeliner & a foundation which I both tested but not used, they took the foundation off as it was not suitable and the eyeliner sold.

Have you tried the free ads in a local paper?
Now I am employed, lets get rid of this student debt! :D:D

    .

I think the point they were trying to make was that if you make money from selling items you recieved from your blogging, then your blogging is making money. :o

  • Ebay looks like your only bet, unless you go to a market and offer it to a stall selling cosmetics
  • Thanks so much for all the feedback.

Does anyone have any personal experience with the following questions?

    Question part 1
As I have literally hundreds of products in my cupboard do you have any advice on how many products I should include in these job lot packages? 10, 20, 50, items? Any personal experience on what works best?

    Question part 2
Should I keep the job lot packages all the same sort of products for example all body lotions and then another one all hair products OR should I mix them up so they are getting a varied mixture of products?

    Question part 3
As all the things vary in price, should I try and keep similar priced products in each bulk package, so everything for £5 together, everything for £10 together (so I could say for example 20 x body lotions worth £5 each) or does it not matter if the prices vary as long as I list the prices of each product?

    Question part 4
When I list what is included, should I put the original retail price next to each item with a TOTAL Value?

    LASTLY
How much should I reduce the total by? Obviously I want to get as much money as possible (but I imagine if they are selling it on then so do they, hehe).
