We were in a similar position with a postman hoarding mail and thousands of items lost, affecting 3000people.
Unfortunately, even though many people could demonstrate real loss, inconvenience (and obvious disappointment ) you'll get nothing from the post office other than an apology.
Their systems and procedures are so broken, it isn't even worth trying.

They should offer compensation, at they very least they should be fined by the regualtor. Any other firm the company is responsible for its employees actions! Its probably time for another postal stike anyway, its a very difficult and strenous job like nursing and teaching you know! They need paid more!0

Thanks for the help everyone. I have lodged a complaint with the Royal Mail and they have given me an address in Plymouth to compalin to so I'll let you know what happens.0
