I would be honest, just go and explain that the faulty camera was bought in Argos, doesnt work and you want a replacement.

Im sure the honest approach is usually the best.

Excatly! :D or ... print out your bank statement with the Argos transaction and use that as receipt .. I have done that and it works
  • I used to work at Argos, (a few years ago), If the item is faulty and you are after a replacement, then not having a receipt shouldn't be too much of a problem; say it was a christmas present. -worth a try-;)....it used to work
  • I've read the comments on the board, wondered what people could advise me to do. For my 21st I had a really nice bracelet as a present from someone who I know always shops for presents in Argos. I'd only had the barcelet for a few weeks and a link snapped. I've still got all the bits and took it back to argos and explained the situation but they said because I didn't have the receipt (I dont see or talk to the person who bought it for me anymore) or the box it came in (chucked it) they couldn't do anything as I couldn't proove it was bought from them, they said they'd repair it but the price they quoted for me was crazy! That was in May last year and since then its just been sitting on a shelf because I thought there was nothing else I could do until I read this thread - what would you lot do?

I think that too much time has passed for you to do much with the faulty bracelet now. What sort is it - is it a well known brand?

argos policy re returning faulty items

    1. you will be asked to provide proof of purchase, in order to prove that it has actually come from an argos store/argos online. receipt is your first port of call, but if you cannot provide one then we also accept credit/debit card statements.

if you still have the box/picking ticket, this can also help your cause, especially if you return it to the store in which in was bought, as there is info on the ticket which will tally with instore records (providing it is with 3-6 months of purchase).

if you have none of the above, but can be quite specific about the time and date when the item was bought, this will also usually be accepted provided that the transaction can be tracked on the computer.

depending on the item and the nature of the fault, it may be replaced there and then, or if you have had the item for a longer period of time (more than 30 days usually) and a repair facility is available for the item, then the item will be sent away for repair.

if the customer service assistant is satisfied by the proof of purchase you have provided, then no charge will be levied provided that the fault is caused by manufacturing defect and not through misuse.

if you cannot provide proof of purchase, then argos are generally still be happy to act as an agent on your behalf, and send the item away for repair. however, if the manufacturer decides to charge for the repair because you have no proof of purchase, and as such, no proof that it is within its warranty period, then any charge will be passed on to you. it is possible to request an estimate before agreeing to any works being carried out in this case.
