Argos no receipt faulty item- Advice Please

Hi All

We got some unexpected argos vouchers before Xmas, so DH and I treated ourselves to a Christmas gift each. I got some straighteners. I used them for a few days and they were fine, but now something isn't right with them, they seem to be really over heating, I want to take them back and exchange them, but I have turned the house upside down and I can't find a receipt.

Do I have any rights without a receipt? I would send them back to the manufacturer, but that says I need a receipt too.

Can anyone give me any advice?

My mum bought my nephew a coin sorter from Argos at the beginning of December. It didn't work but my mum couldn't find the reciept. My brother took it back and got money back - he didn't even bother with an exchange incase the next one did the same. They even managed to tell my brother when it was bought - can't understand that one. Unless there was something taped to the box.

Do you still have the box and is there any numbers or a code on it ?

Btw, this was after the normal 16 days returns policy. Maybe it's different if goods are faulty.
  • Out of curiosity did you register the guarantee? If you did then you've got a date of purchase registered with the manufacturer and you could go to them as a last resort, but Argos should take it back anyway, the 16 day policy is not relevant in this case, that's only for when you change your mind. If a fault turns up in goods like this within the first 6 months then it is asssumed to be a manufacturing fault so you should not have a problem.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare
  • Nope chucked the box and I know it still had the label taped to it. arghhh this is so annoying cause I know I kept the reciept too, lol. Time for another hunt I think.

Nope didn't register with them either and I just read the paperwork and they need a receipt as well, it has got to be in this house somewhere!

  • Panic over! I remembered hubby had a load of boxes in his car to take to the skip at work. A quick phone call and he had chucked them, but managed to retrieve it, box is a bit wet, but it still has the label attached - yipee!

Thanks all for your help :D

    Just for future reference..

I managed to get an exchange on a faulty item without a receipt today, lady at Argos CS suggested going to the bank and getting a print out of the debit/credit card transaction so she could search thru the sales around that date.

I know you used vouchers, but they might have only sold 1 or 2 on the day you purchased your item

Well done finding it. The same thing happened with my straighteners. I had them for 3 wks and they blistered on the plates and I couldn't find the receipt so I bought another pair and took the bad pair back with the receipt and got my money back. You end up with straighteners that work but again with no receipt but you haven't lost out. The second pair are still going strong a year later!;)
