Tesco Wont Give me a credit card, But Pretty much anyone else will

Im trying to get a Tesco credit card, but for reasons unknown, they dont want me to have one. I always get refused.

Now here's the strange thing:
I have two other credit cards: A Barclays Visa and a BA Amex, while AMEX were a bit stingy on the credit limit (less than £1000), I had to decrease the barclays credit limit to something more sensible. I've had to do the same with other credit cards Ive held in the past. So my credit rating doesnt appear to be a problem.

Now I understand that tesco banking is provided by RBS. Is there any milage in getting another financial product with RBS (e.g. a 1 year bond, or a current account) In order improve my credit rating with them? Or do the left and right hands not talk?

Just a bit more background:
After getting turned down, I paid for my credit report to be sent from experian and equifax - nothing untoward. I've never been late on a payment, and (after a stint of being a credit card tart around 10 years ago) pay my balance off every month.

Any advice greatfully received.

Thanks :)

I have the same problem. I tried last year to get a Tesco card and was refused. Spent a month sorting out all bank statements/payslips and getting credit reports.

Sent it to Tesco to appeal. They replied saying it was too late and I would have to weight EIGHT months before re-applying.

    Computer says no!

Anyway, planning on trying again now, so any replies will be useful for me also.

    Cheers.

If you search the forum, you will find lots of posters being refused Tesco cards even with 'good' credit reports.

Oh, that's not good news. I was intending to apply for a Tesco card (just cancelled an M&S one) to cover a £1,500 purchase this autumn.

Tesco banking is actually done by RBS if memory serves. Does anyone think that opening an RBS current account might help the situation? Or is it one of these cases where they only want people laden with debt?

The annoying thing is that I have RBS shares (above any beyond the bail out money) So I have more invested in RBS than they do in me! :D

NO, those 2 sides don't talk at all.

And Tescos credit card is no longer provided by RBS-at least not full on. They are now different. You weren't used to do BT from RBS group but now you can.. No RBS signature on my card or anything any more either..

I think best idea is to appeal the decison and see what happens. Nothing to loose now.

I got accepted online with no problem, and I had no account with RBS before, so I think they accept or decline purely if you meet their credit scoring criteria.
On the other hand when I wanted an exotic card in the past, applied for AMEX twice.. no success.

Hmmmm.. I think I'll have a go at opening a current account, and see if that appeases the Tesco / RBS credit Gods.

I wouldn't bother if I was you. More hassle than it is worth.. unless you are some sort of clubcard points collecting freak of course ;)

But as mentioned above Tesco Finance is independent now. It used to belong to RBS before.
