I don't think anyone has questioned your relationship, but more the point of questioning your original thoughts of paying less towards the house because you have a car and he doesn't, as to most people that isn't how they run things in their household.

As for this, there is no set way on how it works, except that the rent and bills MUST be paid to keep the roof over your head! How individuals / couples / families arrange for the bills to be paid is completely up to them, there is no particular way of doing it, so as long as they are eventually paid. It is up to you and your partner to sort this out, we have merely offered opinions which in actual fact is what you asked for in the first place.
