Well, Fiesta's aren't exactly "cool" to be honest.

They're good, practical, reliable, excellent cars; but calling one cool is stretching the imagination to the limit.

You are 18, ANY car should be acceptable to you at that age. Most 18 year olds can't afford one at all.

I know how to lower insurance prices too, by the way... Get older!
  • ok fair point fiestas arent that cool

but id much prefer the fiesta to what budget car id get unless i looked into it agree?

Where are you looking? Have you passed your driving test or is this the test you've got booked for November?

Your insurance is going to be high at your age whatever the car but the older, less powerful the car is the cheaper the insurance. I'd be very surprised if you can get a 'cool' car and insure it for £5000 at your age.

Also, you've got £5000 for the car and insurance, do you know how you are going to pay for MOT, servicing, car tax and petrol?

    - Third Party Fire and Theft is SOMETIMES cheaper, sometimes not. So check both.
    - Park on street rather than driveway
    - Make you sure you have a minimum of 5k miles

Go over to the insurance thread where there is a specific young driver thread. Biggest influencing factor is your postcode so if there are lots of young drivers having claims in that area then your insurance won't be cheap.

Expect to pay around £2000+ for the lowest group car in the lowest risk postcode.

Is there any reason why a street is considered safer than a drive?
When I last did a quote , it was reduced when I chose the 4k miles per year as part of a special low mileage deal .
Fully comp was cheaper too but maybe it depends on your age.

The only thing I can think of is the theft aspect. If you park on the street they don't know where you live. If someone breaks into your house and takes car keys, its going to be the one on the driveway, whereas if you park down the road they may not find the car to steal.

Have a google for the cheapest cars to insure. And I agree, we were surprised to find youngest sons insurance was cheaper for fully comp than 3rd party, so try all variations and even add an older person to listed drivers to see if that makes a difference.

    Found moneysupermarkets suggestions for you:

    Other group 1 cars:
    - Chevrolet Matiz
    - Citroën C1, C2 and C3
    - Peugeot 107
    - Skoda Fabia
    - Suzuki Alto
    - Toyota Aygo
    - Toyota Yaris
    - Vauxhall Agila
    - Smart Fortwo Coupe
    Older group 1 cars:
    - Seat Marbella
    - Fiat 126
    - Fiat Seicento
    - Citroën 2CV6

    On another site:

    • Citroen C1
    • Fiat Panda
    • Ford Ka
    • Ford Fiesta
    • Peugeot 107
    • Renault Clio
    • SEAT Ibiza
    • Skoda Fabia

Try and get a parent or guardian to insure you as a named driver on any car you buy. When I was 18 (im now 21) I bought a 3 year old 2.2 litre vectra SRI and my insurance was only £750 a year TPFT. Meant i could insure myself on my bike too (Kawa ZX6R).

    Cheers
