This sounds fantastic, and I too will try it on the grouting! Does anyone know where to find the good, old fashioned, green soap bar. Sometimes called Fairy, Sunlight or Household soap. It is pure soap and much better for getting stains out if you rub before putting in the washing machine.:(

My mum got me some from port sunlight itself and its fab stuff. But then we live in the northwest, bit far to go from London lol.

You can buy the bars online though here

green household soap can be found at my co-op and also at wilkinsons - both fairy soap and own brand version
I used to buy this when my kids were younger to get tidemarks off school shirt collars and cuffs just scrub with a nailbrush before putting in the machine It was also great for removing poster paint on clothes particularly blue which for some reason was the hardest to get out
  • I have bought household soap in Morrisons recently. I keep a bar in one of the little string bags that you are supposed to use for washing machine tablets. Adds a bit of friction when scrubbing things too.

wilkinson's, but you have to hunt for it.

ad you can make a amazing gel for cleaning from it. grate a whole bar into a pan. cover with 1-1.5 l water (depending on how soft you wat your gel), stir and leave to melt. pour into jars and ut lids o when still hot. keeps forever, gets grass, blood, chocolate and ribeina out of school shirts.
if you have a gas cooker, when you make a batch pour some all over the cooker top. leave to completely cool and then peel off.
also works on glass topped electric cookers, but wait til the cooker is completely cool first or you get a birnt fairy smell that lasts for days :rotfl:

and thanks for the baggie tip!! we don't use tablets, but I can make one hahaha!

maybe you can help me... why does my bath tub stain? I often use a citric acid rinse for my hair and it makes the tub orange (not the sink, not the hotel shower cubicle,a not my sister's tub - just mine!) and henna washed out stains it instantly. the surface feels kinda 'matte' rather than glossy/smooth.

I end up having to bleach it all the time as everything stains!! Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    tanya

sound slik someone in the past used something which dulled the surface. I dn't know how you'd restore that though.
  • Thanks for the info. Usually spend a fortune on bathroom cleaners. Tesco value body gel, here I com. Already use their value baby bath for my kids (12p 500ml) :j
  • Have checked in my local 24 hour superstore but could not find body gel. I could only find shower gel for 30p. Is this the same as the body gel for cleaning your bath? Looked online at Tesco as well but could only find shower gel as above.

Morrisons 10p showergel is fantastic for cleaning, as is their value shampoo (22p). I also use the cheapest washing up liquid, watered down in a squirty bottle to clean worktops in the kitchen.
