any grants similar to Warmfront available?

I live in park home. Oil tank has split and cannot be replaced as current safety siting laws prohibit as too close to boundary walls/neighbours. This leaves me with no heating. Apparently criteria for Warmfront changed and no longer consider DLA recipient like me. I don't know what to do. Any ideas?

  • Hi there

Firstly, the good news is that the oil tank can be replaced.

The only proviso being that if it is within 760mm of a boundary, a 30 minutes fire-resistant wall - which extends at least 300mm above and beyond the ends of the tank - must be constructed between the tank and the boundary; or an approved fire resistant tank should be installed. Envirostore UK manufacture such a tank - more information at envirostoreuk.com or call their sales department on 07540 299 917.

An alternative, may be to install a smaller tank or a different shape of tank which may negate the 760mm requirement of you're lucky and allow virtually a like for like replacement, without the fire protection requirements. Alternatively, you could perhaps reposition the tank elsewhere in the garden. Moving it further away from the boundary may achieve adequate clearance.

Also, many plastic tanks are / were supplied with a 10 year warranty against manufacturing defect. How old is the tank? Whose the manufacturer? Have you contacted them to see if they will assist? If you need contact information, let me know and I'll happily post the relevant information. If you've had a spill, you should also contact the Environment Agency and your home insurers too.

This leaves me with no heating.

A £8.99 Fan Heater, or a more economical halogen heater may be a good buy as a temporary measure. Not ideal for the longer term or when it gets really cold, but at least will ensure some level of comfort in the shorter term until you can sort something out.

Also, whilst not relevant for Lamcote - if anyone is reading this and currently using electric or coal, there are grants of up to £520 for conversion to Heating Oil, LPG or mains gas via npower's A1 Low Carbon Solutions Scheme (A1LCS).
