Tyre wear on front wheels

Hi, my Corsa has tyre wear on both fronts on the inside edge, the LHS is less than the RHS but they are both wearing on the inside. a band of about 4 - 5 cm is wearing down on each side.

I could take it to an alignment laser chappy in Cardiff, but I'm wondering is it the best thing to do? All they can adjust is the toe and possibly ?? the caster.

But would this fix the problem?

Logically to me (not having any knowledge in this area) it would seem that the camber needs to be adjusted. But the camber is fixed, and can only be adjusted if I buy camber adjustment bolts for the car.

What is best?

The car goes in a straight line, with a very slight vear to the left. The vear to the left used to be worse about a year ago it seems to have got "better" by itself.

Thanks

Too much toe out will wear the inner edge as well.

could be tracking or under inflation.. being bands on both sides would suggest to me its not pumped up enough..

No, just one band on each front tyre, the inside edge. Definately not under inflated as I have them pumped up to 50psi to try to counter the tyre wear.

Yup, almost definitely tracking, relatively simple and inexpensive to sort on a Corsa I would of thought.

    Its your tracking.

Either that or your cornering far too hard.

    50 psi :eek::eek:

some nasty overinflation there wont do much good.

but it sounds like tracking.. get it checked out shouldnt cost much for a tyre place to look at even ask at dinner time they may do it for the price of a couple of bacon buttys.. i know my local tyre place does.
edit- sorry your OP made it sound like inside and outside edges were wearing down..

Jack car up and check for any play holding wheel at 3 and 9 oclock any play will be down to worn track rod ends any play holding wheel at 6 and 12 oclock is worn bottom ball joint. possible wheel bearing worn but usually noisy as well. Plus if they are cheap tyres they wont last 3 miles anyway.

Plus you can adjust the camber by loosening the two bolts throu the hub carrier to the strut. only marginally thou Ive tracked many cars over the years and doin about 10 a week now
  • if lhs is worse than rhs i'd say LHS is causing lateral force damage to RHS tyre if you get me?. worn top mount could cause inner wear.
is this something thats happening in a short period of time having to replace tyre after tyre.

ive got a bad gearbox mount thats causing the same wear on the inner tyre of one band but as im getting rid of car im not spending anymore on it.
