It is their responsibility to search this out. Under section seven of the data protection act, if the OP makes a subject access request, Tesco must provide all data they hold on the subject. If it is a bit of a bother, that is their problem.

    At what cost?

And Tesco would have to proof that to be the case.

So they come back after you pay £10 and tell you that you spent a total of say £850 in total 9-11 months ago in 10 different clubcard transactions. How is that proof of purchase of the microwave?

    Hi All,

    I just been to tesco..

    1. They are not able to access the club card points history backdated 11 months ago due to data protection.

    2. I was able to use my bank statement as proof of purchase although the amount doesnt tele with the microwave purchase value. I had some explanation to do and needed a manager authorization.

Overall, they allowed me to have an exchange / refund which is a good news :D

It's great to see you got it sorted, but what planet are they on with the data protection act. It really pees me off when companies hide behind the DPA when they have no idea what they are talking about.

This is billy-bollox. The DPA is all about protecting the data owner. In this case that owner is you. So they're protecting you from your own data? What a load of nonsense. Whilst I'd have been very happy with the overall result I'd still have probably chirped up about this - I become faintly apoplectic faced with companies GETTING DATA WRONG.

Well according to the cust care lad, he said the data will be 'deleted' from the system after certain period of time. As that, the data protection for us.. but my husband dont believe that, lol...
