Not sure if i am in the right thread but here it goes ...

My tesco microwave decide to blew up on me today. I called the customer service hotline and explain the situation and that i didnt have the receipt and i cant be sure if i paid via debit card or cash.

Having said that, i am pretty sure it has been swiped along with the Tesco club card points but the tesco cust care hotline says it is not viable.

I read some other consumer comments that club card history is acceptable for proof of purchase.

Who's right and Who's wrong?

Also, if i did paid via debit card and had my statement, the statement does not show the item bought, only the amount. There are other items bought so the amount isnt precisely show the microwave value. How can i prove this?

You've not given enough details. How old is the item being, probably, the most crucial.

i use tesco every day, sometimes 2 or 3 times, any statement could be for any item, that wont help.
all warranties need to be returned with proof of purchase to be acceptable, it does say that in the warranty information.

You need some proof of purchase. Club card history would show this, but (here's the kicker) Tesco don't give you clubcard statements that show what you bought - and it's not their responsibility to search out your proof of purchase from their system.

A credit/debit card statement should also work - they can see you bought items from them, and should be able to match this to the correct transaction. If you can't find this...I guess it's a live & learn situation. How much was the microwave anyway?

    Thanks for all the replies.

The microwave is less than a year old. To be precise, 10 months.

I have bank statement that shows that particular day, particular store transaction ( which i believe it is under the microwave purchase) but just of course the statement only shows total amount which includes other item purchased.

I did call the tesco electrical fault helpline and he said to me they wont able to track through the club card history which puzzles me - just incase i paid with cash and the above paragraph wont be valid.

So how can i proof my purchase then? :(

p/s: The microwave is tesco own brand so i couldnt have got it elsewhere? unless of course 2nd hand but it isnt

If you have a card statement showing a transaction on the day in that store, that should suffice.

No, but you could (not that you would!) have stolen it.

You can see your Clubcard points history by date and transaction on the Clubcard web and mobile sites.

Just been on their website. They dont allow history view backdated 10 months, it also doesnt show what item purchased.

It is their responsibility to search this out. Under section seven of the data protection act, if the OP makes a subject access request, Tesco must provide all data they hold on the subject. If it is a bit of a bother, that is their problem.

No, but you could (not that you would!) have stolen it.

And Tesco would have to proof that to be the case.
