My spam is increasing at an alarming rate.

I have two yahoo addresses and am now getting about 50 spams a day on each one and it seems it is increasing all the time. I cannot just ignore the bulk folder as every so often a genuine email comes through which cannot be ignored.
I get about twenty sometimes just for replica watches. Loads that say none or your order is ready. Is the spam increasing for others?
Do you know of any forums where this is being discussed? Is there a forum on Yahoo that anyone knows of? I should imagine Yahoo themselves do not really care or they would do something about it apart from going on their paid service.

  • Spam is increasing at an alarming rate. I get offered everything from little blue pills?? to watches to banking details required. I am starting to get spam on addresses that I don't publicise.
Just perserve wth blocking spam, in fact my hotmail account gets very little these days.
  • Here we got very little spam...until last week looking for update drivers for a webcam I joined drivers.com...big mistake for a few days loads came in...I unsubscribed from drivers.com and then blocked and bounced all spam and it has now started to slow down thankfully.

Did you choose a sensible user name? i.e. not common names that would be found using a dictionary attack.

  • I have a number of email addresses that I use for signing up to web sites and a couple of personal email addresses that are only given out to personal and professional contacts.

Two ways of cutting down spam to your accounts are to not advertise your email address on websites as these can sometimes be harvested and secondly is to use a spam catcher email account for signing up to sites, keeping your/a personal email account separate.

Using this logic, I have kept my personal email accounts spam free for well over six years, including a Hotmail account which some people consider a spam-magnet.

You can wipe out spam from foreign places in one fell swoop with Yahoo...

    1)
Inside the options find "domain blocking"...

Add the country code for all the spam you're receiving outside these main domain name extentions.

For instance, if you're receiving spam a number of Brazilian accounts simply add .com.br and any mail coming from Brazilian domains will be blocked.

    2)
Again in options, find "Spam Protection"

Make sure you have ticked both options under "Mark Spam + Not Spam"

    ALSO....

Select "Block all images until I've had a chance to look it over" because if you are seeing the images of spam emails you're opening you are telling the spammer that your email address is an active one!

    3)
If you only have friends and family emailing you you could set up a filter in options.

Simply select filters followed by add and then create a rule

body DOES NOT CONTAIN "keyword of your choice" then move to trash.

The would mean that you could tell anyone you want to contact you that they should include the keyword in the body of the email. This would mean their mail would get through and the spam would be immediately removed to the trash folder.

This is the harshest of the three methods, but the most effective. It does however rely on your contacts remembering to add your keyword to their emails to you.

I registered my own domain for emails, so the bit after @ is totally unique to me. Used something that would be hard to figure out and have not had 1 piece of spam since.
