Password on Excel workbook

open document, when you are prompted for the password to edit the sheet click on read only, when it opens, save as. Rename the workbook and save. The new workbook should be unprotected.
Hasn't let me down as yet.
I just opened the spreadsheet on my Mac and can edit all columns which are not hidden, as input of data is required each week by user.
My specific problem is that on the tab at bottom of page, there is a lock symbol. On the Mac I right click and click "Unprotect sheet", it then asks for password. I need to get past this to either extend the sheet past the 52 weeks, and also to get the formula and unhide 2 hidden columns.
I looked at software mentioned for password recovery but it was a tad expensive at $99. Is there any similar softwares where a trial version is available?
If you can help further I would be grateful.
