Password on Excel workbook

Options
I want to try and unlock an Excel spreadsheet and want to ask if there is any reliable software available that would help.

The spreadsheet concerned was on Windows format but I use it on my Mac at the moment. I need to get the formula on 1 column and also reveal some hidden columns

Thanks in advance

What version of Excel was it? The older ones the password is very easy to recover, the newer ones more challenging

    Hi,

I am not sure what version it is but the spreadsheet was made around end of 2007 if that helps.

    Thanks

Doesnt really given the person who created it could have been bang up to date with Excel 2007 or in the dark ages with Excel 95. Given your looking at it on a Mac I dont know if doing an alternate click/ Get Info will tell you the format or not

I had already tried that get info but it does not show. Knowing the guy who created the spreadsheet I would hazard a guess at it being an office 2003 version at the latest.

I also have it saved in Windows version XLS and can try finding out version using my friends PC tomorrow, can you tell me how to check that please? Sorry, forgotten Windows stuff now....

    Thanks again

You say to "unlock", is that the password to open the file or the password to remove protection/ unhide sheets etc inside the file?

Ah sorry, I would say it is the password to remove protection. I have the sheet open but need to change dates each calendar year and need to find out the formula used for one of the columns.

Also I notice there about 3 or 4 hidden columns on the spreadsheet, must be something to do with the working out.

    Thanks

It has weekly rows and after the row for final week of the year there is a solid row of cells across the sheet so this stops me from extending the sheet after the 52 weeks

open document, when you are prompted for the password to edit the sheet click on read only, when it opens, save as. Rename the workbook and save. The new workbook should be unprotected.

Hasn't let me down as yet.
