Orange wanting money for nothing
Options
Hi all, I wonder if anyone can help me.
I have just received a demand for £44.94 which is three months of my old contract.
I cancelled my mobile telephone contract in April, and made the last payment in May as they insisted on 30 days notice. I have now received a demand for £44.94 and have been told that as I was sent a PAYG sim card my contact was live until I registered that. I was not aware of this at the time, and was offered the PAYG sim, I did not request the PAYG, and I don't remember them telling me that unless I used the PAYG sim I would still be live on my contract, or if they did they didn't explain it that well. I was told to cancel my direct debit after May's payment.
I am now told it will be another 30 days until the contract can be disconnected - I have not used this phone since March, which undoubtedly Orange can clearly see. This is blatant robbery, as I clearly requested my monthly contract be cancelled. I have attempted to register the SIM today, but it will not register online.
The customer services person I was speaking to hung up on me, I was not being offensive, I simply stated that I wanted a refund, the person I was speaking to said he was unable to do that, I asked to speak to somebody who could, and he said I would have to wait and deal with a collections agency to which I said that they were supposed to be a service industry - this was sharp practice and he hung up!! What sort of company is it that doesn't have authority to deal with it's own mistakes!?!?!
What is the best way to go about complaining about this, as I have no intention of paying. This is the first I have heard I owe them money - why was I not sent a demand when the first payment was missed in June? I was no longer able to log into the website to look at my account after May, so I would be completely unaware that I owed any money, as far as I was concerned my contact with Orange was finished.
Any ideas?
