My initial thinking was that if the viv was not well cleaned and steralized between reptiles, yours could have caught a fatal infection.

So would anything else in that viv and the rest of the stock would have been at risk.
Now you've said this, I'm wondering if they fought to death. Dragons can be very possessive, and rarely live happily together..

They live together more often than not. Males shouldn't be housed together as there's a higher chance of fighting, but male / female or female / female is usually fine.

I appreciate that, but it's usually a slow introduction or the animals growing up together, rather then two strange adults thrown into the same viv...

If one was missing an arm, it seems quite likely that they fight!

It seems a shocking boarding company. I hope its nowhere near me!
  • beardies when bread are kept in vivs in large numbers. Its not uncommon for them to be missing toes and arms as awful as it sounds they eat each other. Ive rescued beardies with limbs missing.
Beardies really are the most wonderful reptiles and I can understand why your son is so unhappy. At the end of the day you know nothing about how this beardies been kept, its health etc
Im thinking yours has been sold cause owners know what their pets look like and im sure you'd realise that you had been given the wrong animal just like you did. Do you have any photos of your beardie so you can 100% show the reptile shop that one isn't yours? I'm truley very sorry
Mad Mum to 3 wonderful children, 2 foster kittens and 2 big fat cats that never made it to a new home!
Aiming to loose 56 pounds this year. Total to date 44.5 pounds 12.5 to go. Slimming World Rocks!

Hi the pet shop owner said he had lost the paperwork for the sale of the bearded dragon of the person who had ours. I thought you had to keep paperwork when you sold a pet . I asked as I thought he would have an address so I could go round. Thanks Tracey

If the petshop owner has the address then under the Data Protection Act he could not give it to you without the owners consent.

if he did give you the address he would be in breach of the DPA and the persons whos address he gave out could sue the pet shop

also if he was boarding them, then he should keep a perm record of address/contact details of all owners. this will be part of their licence agreement.
just think if they board an animal that has a medical condition they were not aware of and a few weeks later they are told of this and that it could have effected other animals boarded. how are they going to contact all the other owners.

.....offering a replacement is not a satisfactory offer, as much as having a different child being returned to you from the nursery.

I would have quite liked this!

    !

that normally happens when they're young; nipped tails and missing limbs is a baby beardie thing. A couple of years ago i was in a reptile shop and a baby beardie was happily munching on the foot of another one.

I do think you should take this as far as possible, report it to the papers and attempt to get the licence reviewed. In terms of compensation though you can't hope for anything more than a new pet or the £45 you paid for it back.

I also agree with you he isn't being honest, you don't just pass on the wrong pet.

    Why so funny?

Have you seen the rubbish local papers print these days? It's just embarassing.
