Hi, I'd like to say thank you to all who have recommended soapnuts. I have just finished my second load of washing with my free sample. Even my DH can see the difference. I will certainly be buying more.

Just one question though, I usually put some Ace bleach in with the wash, does anyone know if it is safe to add this with the nuts? It is a "gentle" bleach especially for washing. I hope I can as I've just bought 5 bottles from Morrisons as they were £1 each instead of £2.18.

P.S. I only ever wash at 40 degrees, the lowest my WM will do.

I use these too for my baby's washing as he suffers from ezcema, it does seem to have made a difference to his skin and everything comes up clean enough x

Just purchased a 1kg Bag of them, looking forward to seeing, smelling, and wearing the results.

Thanks for alerting me and the world to the glorious soap nut! :)

i think you can add anything you like to the wash with the nuts
i use softner most of the time and have added stain remover though now i just spray stains 1st
  • Thanks for reminding me about these OP. I bought some for my sister at Christmas and she has had no adverse effects since using - am going to try the free sample when current eco stuff runs out. I think i got them from either traidcraft or natural collection but neither seem to stock them now. Don't know why so few of the "eco stores" do them theyre a great idea.
  • Finally got to try them out and actually DO some laundry! lol

Was pleasantly surprised as seems a much more GENTLE way of doing washing even though I added fabric conditioner and will need stain remover to give it a wee boost , overall am very happy with my choice and it feels good :)

Am going to try drying them out and re-using them or doing my usual 2 loads at a time for whites and colours , colours still stayed nice and bright which is good and for MONEY SAVING I think we're on to a winner as well!! x

I use them- and for super dirty stuff use Aquados Simply washing "nuggets" that I but direct with a code and only use half of what they suggest and always get clean washing either way!

I don't use bleach as that is horrible for the water supply and my family's skin but use white veinegar as fabric softner- sounds crazy but it does work! If I am feeling decedant I will put a few drops of essential oil in the dispenser as well!
Green and minimal chemicals is the new black- I know a fair old bit about sustainability, specially energy and transport stuff. If I can help- please ask!

all they ask is for p&p costs; which is 75p. worth a go for anyone who's interested?

Great tip OP. I've just used my sample soapnuts and was happy with the results. Think I'll use them for lightly dirty washing, and do whites and nasty loads with normal powder. :T
