Cat followed me - not sure what to do.

I almost stood on a cat when I got home tonight. She was lying on the steps to my building and I didn't see her. But now she has followed me inside and refuses to go back outside! She doesn't have a collar, and is very friendly.
But I don't know what to do with her! I don't want to just chuck her outside incase she gets run over or something, should I keep her til morning then phone the local shelter, or a vet or something? I'm not even sure if she's really lost, or just wanted a feed
Help!

Congratulations. You have been specially chosen to be a cat owner.
Phone the police tomorrow and see if a cat has been reported missing. If you have the facilities to take the cat to a vet, find one with a chip reader and see if the cat has been microchipped.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
What a sweet story..
Yeah take her in, more than likely she just wants somewhere cosy to sleep, maybe some food. You'll know if shes hungry she won't sleep straightaway.
In the morning see if anyones lost her. You should keep her otherwise if you can and want to. A cat adopted me years ago and I still have her today. It happens like that sometimes. I think it can be lucky to keep a cat that crosses your path. I believe when that happens that cat is meant for you, crazy I know but thats just my feeling.
Good luck anyway, I'd love to know what happens.0 -
Yeah, get her checked for a microchip.
I was taken on by a cat;) and six months down the line went to have it vaccinated before going away for a few days and having to put it in a cattery, only to find it was chipped....:o:o:o. The vets told the owners I'd found it a few days before:o0 -
Cat's have this uncanny ability to spot a mug a mile off! ;-) I was chosen by Daisy Cat the moment I walked into the ASSISI cattery...Good luck with your new addition although I hope you find the owners if the are ones.0

I suspect one of my neighbours had this problem today.
The stoooopid cat legged it out the front door as I shut it to go on an important visit and refused to come in, deliberately hiding in someone else's impenetrable garden. So I locked the door and went out.
He was rained on for approximately 6 hours, as he is too idiotic to think of sitting in the open greenhouse in the back garden for shelter.
When I came back and scooped him up from my veggie bed with a towel, I caught a distinct whiff of something.
This cat likes children, older people with long fingernails and biscuits.
He smelled very strongly of cinnamon.
I think he may be cheating on us.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

Cats have no morals, but are quick to take offence at imagined injustices towards them.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

My big ginger and white fluffy boy sometimes comes home smelling of perfume. At least he does come home.... I just pretend to myself it's not happening to us...:o0 -

My 'Bacardi Cat' has at least 4 other homes that I know of......I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
