Solar Energy (OFF GRID)??
Comments

I doubt there is a financially viable solution available yet. But if you look at what is happening with electrical power storage in electric cars, you can see that technically it will be possible. It has been talked about that the Nissan Leaf batteries could be used for this purpose when they have lost some their performance. Example they might loose 20% of their capacity after 5 years, after which a stationery storage use might extend their useful life.
However, right now, as others have said, the FIT payment has to be the best method.
Also, as in post 4 above, there are "no commercial solar powered generating stations in this country", but there are some large installations happening. Search for info on the Toyota Derbyshire PV project.0 -

I'm afraid to say it's a non-starter, for the various reasons explained above.
Mains electricity is provided much more efficiently than yours would be after it had been stored in batteries.
If you want low-carbon electricity then
a) reduce consumption as much as possible
b) get solar PV and use as much as possible by timing clothes washes etc.
c) get a 100% renewable tariff from a specialist renewable provider (if you use a mainstream provider you may just be using renewable energy that they were obliged to buy anyway)
