Only able to go down to Wheelton today, but desperately needed water, did the loo, always a delight, chugged back to fish n chips and a couple of glasses of white wine.. does life get better than that..:) If you are near Blackburn though do try the new market... the meat is amazing on the stalls as is the fresh fish and veg...:) @ Candy girl if you get a chance try Cuerden Valley farmers market... its getting bigger and better.. was on today, but had chores, My son and his girlfriend went and its got a lot bigger... I love farmers markets..
That's right near where I live hun.Have been before and it's fab"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

ahhh Candy Girl I suspect you live in Clayton le Woods or Walton le Dale ....:D
Today has been rainy and very choppy on the boat, dont know why but a surge of water really rocked us... I suspect they are letting water out of the locks at Blackburn...
Was up at 5.30 today, It is really quite sad when you suddenly realise you havent heard your cat for a while and lay awake listening for it... used to do it with the kids, but a cat , madness... but then about a month ago I was awoken by a thud... first thought cat, fallen in canal......!!! It was about 2.30 in the morning, I grabbed the torch and started checking the water.... Up he pops at the side of the boat, grabbed him by the scruff of his neck, dont know who was more scared me, the cat or the husband lol....:D A wet cat is so funny looking... ..
Today we are having a roast, sat watching my fave movie .. murder on the orient express... with the rain lashing down outside.. nice and cosy... The oven has warmed the boat real toasty....A nice bottle of cote du rhone, apart from being on a sun drenched beach, having won the lottery, life does not get much better...:)0 -
I have been reading some sonnets today and this one by willie always gets me..
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of being and ideal grace.
I love thee to the level of every day's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for right.
I love thee purely, as they turn from praise.
I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints. I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life; and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.0 -
The cat.........did it turn up:oBe the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

I live right next door to that canal and am very close to you
I always wanted to live on it myself and have a few friends who have.
Johnson hillocks are wonderful and a lovely place to walk, as is the bit going towards SkiptonBlackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

The cat did turn up, however we have lost them both once here now, which was nerve racking, as I fear that they might drown, bless them both, they are definately not "streetwise"... We were told about this guy who had a cat, everytime he took his boat out, it obviously faced in the different direction, to what it had been... The cat never realising leapt off the boat straight into the canal, thinking it was leaping onto dry land
I love cats but they are not bright...
Ah boredofbeingathome are you at Fenniscowles..? Have not been up to Johnson Hillocks just the name sounds wonderful... I really want to go to Skipton the boat, I have heard it is beautiful...0 -
Unfortunately I have been ill all day and have just stopped being sick, not pleasant and certainly not a great experience on a boat, however it was a NSD... thank god for small mercies..:)0

ahhh never knew they were called that Johnson Hillocks... There are 7 locks there and they take us about 2/3 hrs to get past... I actually go thru them quite a bit... The other day we chugged on to Haigh Hall Country Park, really lovely scenery... We got to Wigan and really did not do the 21 locks there, so like wimps we turned back
:)...
