'Cashback reward bonus for Nationwide credit card customers'

in Credit cards
I hesitate to suggest that a story in the Daily Mail has any basis in fact, though as I suspect it's probably come from a Nationwide media release, here's some news about Nationwide credit cards.
It seems that they may be doing something realistic for those loyal members who have been let down by recent developments.
Let's see if the story appears elsewhere before breaking out the champagne.

Daily_Mail wrote:Nationwide is set to give 400,000 credit card customers an upgrade to its new, free Select card.
This is available to existing Nationwide Gold, Classic or Cash Reward credit card customers who also use their Nationwide FlexAccount as their main current account.
The card gives cashback at 1 per cent for three months and 0.5 per cent thereafter ...
All overseas purchases will also be completely free of charge.
Eligible customers will receive their card automatically over the next few months.

Answer back, no details on the card but:NW wrote:After review of your account I can see that you are one of the selected members who will be receiving the new Nationwide Select card.
Unfortunately, I am unable to provide any further details in regards to this account as of yet as they are not available to myself.
All customers who are set to receive the new card will be receiving a letter over the course of August, September and October highlighting all the details.0 -
It sounds like good news then.0

Found another reference to this card:

Further details are now available from Nationwide itself:

Is this an automatic upgrade for all existing customers?0

Just got my letter... was thinking of cancelling the NW Gold Card (£0 balance) but may keep it open for foreign purchases now if it's changing to this new 'select' card. It's almost as if they knew what I was thinking...0

Interesting, I still (just) have my Gold card with them but have effectively stopped using it and their current account as they offer such poor products these days.
I wonder if I started cycling £750/month through my current account, I would be offered this card..
