Cat proofing a garden

Ok, so I am trying to plan how to cat proof my garden...to keep my own cats IN not so much other cats OUT.
I need some kind of bracket, approx 1m total length with a mid way bend, but at around 135 degrees. ( a flat bar could be used but I need to know how to bend it, plumbers shop??? ) It will be supporting some kind of mesh ( probably deer fencing ) so not heavy duty but robust.
Any ideas of where I can buy something ready made? Am waiting for a metal design company to give me a price but am open to other suggestions too.

Whatever you do, i can almost gaurantee that within a week your cats will have worked out how to get out of your garden. lolmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
It is very difficult to keep cats confined... I wonder why you would want to do that? Maybe you might be better off building a run outside for your cats if you really are determined to confine them .. might be as cheap and definately more successful#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Maybe a sense of responsibility towards the neighbours - who really shouldn't have to put up with other peoples pets scratting and fouling their gardens and killing birds etc.
Or maybe just a busy road!0 -

Awww our neighbour's cat loves our garden (not to mention curling up for a nap inside our house). He must be very well trained - never scratches or poops in our garden. He sits and stares at our bird feeders but thanks to the bell around his neck doesn't have a hope of ever catching a bird.
Our houses are near a busy road so our neighbour doesn't mind that he spends half his time at ours (we don't feed him so he always goes home) as they'd rather he was safe than roaming the street.
No helpful advice for the OP except the design you're thinking of reminds me of the big cat enclosures at our local zoo.If you get new neighbours move in they may wonder what on earth you're keeping in your garden. :rotfl:

I have 6 ( maybe 7!! ) cats now and yes, I do worry about them messing in other people's gardens even though I encourage them to use a toilet patch at home. I am also increasingly worried about cats getting poisoned by weed killer, or anti freeze, attacked by dogs, getting hit by a passing car or just wandering off too far from home in a search for fun...hence the idea to enclose the garden.0

I was going to argue with you but decided it wasn't worth it... lets agree to differ..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

On a whole I'd say dont bother!
We have so called cat proved our back balconey as we are 1 of 3 joined and obv would like to keep cats to our balconey as if neighbours have their back door open its not fair that our cats just walk in next door like they do.And as for them running along the wall 2 floors up  But the reason I say not to bother as my 2 cats just jump & climb over it with no effort. We have done basically what you are planning to do.
There are companies that sell the equipment for either you to fit yourself or get them to fix up,try looking in Your cat magazine as last month they had a bit on the fenching.0 -
Yes, it's a real company that makes supposedly cat-proof fencing. We costed it but at £7000 it seemed a tad expensive!! We made our own with fruitcage netting and my OH made the curved metal tops. Cost £200 and kept 1 cat in quite happily, but the other was determined to get out and despite the tops curving right over he managed after a while to haul himself over and escape. We lived on a busy road so ended up with 2 housecats.
I agree that a determined cat will never be contained - we moved house!0 -
There is a way to cat proof your garden. Years ago I used to breed/show persians & hence I knew what I was talking about. I say knew because I've forgotten the contact details now. If you contact the GCCF (Governing Council of the Cat Fancy), they can put you onto another organisation (sorry thats what I've forgotten), who can advise & make recommendations on how to secure your cats in your own garden.
From memory - Fencing and then on top of the fencing you do put twilweld, but at an certain degree angle so that it points inwards. The cat/s cannot get out of this & it looks ok too. More importanly its safe for the cat/s and inexpensive to construct. Good luck0 -
