i this is my first post on this board, i've been feeling really down lately so had a look on the internet to find out the symptoms of depression and as you can guess i had quite a few, went to the doctors yesterday and explained everything to him and he gave me some tablets to take but i would really like to speak to someone professional so i can find out whats making me feel depressed.

the doctor told me to come back in 2 weeks but do you think thats good enough just giving me tablets and saying go away?

I think it is good from your doctor because in the first few weeks of being on ther tablets they make you feel quite bad, and i think whislt being on them and feeling down they make you emphasise on what makes you feeling down. I guess he has put you Cipralex or escitalopram (sp?) The problem with mental health problems it takes a long time to be seen by a professional, It took me 3 months before i saw a Comunity practice nurse and I am still waiting to go on CBT. The reason why it takes long is because depression is such a common thing and you are not the only one who suffers with it, everyone suffers from it from sometime in their life. Some people can get over it in a matter of months other it takes years to sort out.

The medication should take about two weeks to kick in and then you can speak to your doctor next time you see them. It may take a while to see a counsellor but it will be worth it. Can you not think of anything that may have contributed to how you are feeling?

The tablets take time to work, please take them and dont miss a dose, then return in 2 weeks to see how you are progressing.

What I would do is make a list of what you feel, why you feel that and how long you have felt that this way.

Thank you so much everyone I am happy, excited, we have been here before. But it will be different this time, im sure of it

Still writing my depression story, gonna add a bit more to it at some stage.

Welcome jamiebraund. It's good that the Doctor has given you 2 weeks supply and then asked you to come back. At least he/she is keeping an eye on you. Did the Doctor mention seeing a counsellor? Usually they combine medication with seeing a counsellor.
