  • Thankyou, I just find myself completely lost. and it frustrates me to hell. I knw I should be grateful for so many things and happy but its hard to get yourself back into that frame of mind.

It certainly doesnt help when people are always asking if im in a mood nad for me to smile, im not a naturally smiley person even when im happy. These sorts of comments just get me down even more and the big question comes up again, why cant I be like everyone else. And then i start comparing myself to people and what their lifes have. vicious circle

A vicious circle is exactly what it's like. Being made to feel like we should be "grateful" or to "snap out of it" is so unhelpful. You feel how you feel and there's no reason to be guilty or apologetic about that. I know it's hard but try and put that out of your mind, start focusing on yourself and your own needs, rather than compare yourself to others when you know you are not 100% right now - hardly a fair comparison - it's just more pressure on yourself that you don't need right now hun. It will take time to get things on the mend, it won't happen overnight of course, but once you've seen the doctor and you're on the right path, the vicious circle will be broken.

Hi Alex - sorry to hear that, especially as you seemed to go through a better spell of sleeping recently, it's really frustating I know. Is it connected to anything? Have you had a chat with doc?

 LOL actually not as much as it sounds, honest! I tend to 'front load' them have two or three at the beginning of the day, then none at all after lunchtime. Weird, I know!

Enjoy your walk hun, keep that OH on a short lead!:p My hot water ain't working at the mo', so I'm gonna pop over to my folks inabit to wash my hair:rolleyes: Too much excitement!:D

It's some new research I'm drawing to your attention to confirming previous research showing how depressed people are more likely to self-harm, commit suicide, abuse their partners and become manic if they have low levels of Omgea 3 (particularly DHA) in their brains.

This is something every one can change by increasing the amount of oily fish in their diet to at least 3 portions a week or supplementing with a decent amount of Cod liver oil (2 tsps daily) or high strength fish oil (at least 1 tsp daily)

The cod liver oil also has a bit of Vitamin d in it and that helps the uptake of omega 3. You could well take a lot more D3.
I appreciate that some people with depression find it difficult to concentrate or make decisions but those who are caring for them may want to pop round to Nettos to stock up on 18p tins of Sardines and Tomato sauce (good source of omega 3) or Pilchards or mackerel etc so they get at least 3 portions, hopefully more a week. It'll take a while to restore the bodies current insufficiency state but if it lowers the risk of self-harm, suicide, domestic abuse and impulsive manic episodes it's a small price to pay.

Click on the blue writing in my previous post and read the research abstracts it should be sufficient to show the importance of diet to Mental Health.

    Magnesium
    More on Magnesium and Depression
Dirt cheap to buy Magnesium. You can buy a 25kg sack Magnesium Chloride (dead sea salts) for around £6.75 and put a about a pound 500g ish in your bath and soak for 12 mins or so before you go to bed.
This should, if you do it regularly increase your magnesium status and help you sleep sounder.
The magnesium goes through your skin while in the bath, You could just soak your feet if you haven't a bath.
You could just get a flake or two of magnesium salts and tuck them inside a waterproof plaster and stick it somewhere discreet. You'd be making a transdermal patch but the magnesium would be taken up through the skin in the same way as soaking in the bath.
You can also dissolve 50g in 150ml water and take a few tsps of this in fruit juice or food during the day.
You can do much the same with Epsom Salts but they cost a bit more but can be found in smaller bags.
The best supplement appears to be magnesium taurate.
