Transferring a pager number to a mobile
Hi
I have a pager number, still active, that I would like to transfer to a mobile. I've spoken to the company that manage the service and was told it's not possible.
Can anyone tell me if this is correct? Possibly with an explanation?
Or was it likely that it is possible but the company wouldn't want to do it?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Lester

I wouldn't think its possible because the Mobile Number Portability Regulations only cover mobile numbers. The pager number is from a range allocated for pagers.
I doubt the pager service provider has access to the shared computer system that generates and checks PAC.
The way portability works is that the original service provider routes incoming calls/texts to your current provider. I doubt the pager provider has the ability to route voice calls.
So unfortunately I can't see this happening.0 -
You can only transfer like-for-like services.
Ofcom issue ranges to communications providers from the "Paging Services" range for use with pagers, and that is all those numbers can be used for. Same as you couldn't take your 0161 home telephone number to an area covered by 0121, for example. You'd have to get a new number.
So your provider is right.0
