Assured Shorthold Tenancy

I am looking for 5 year minimum rental but have been advised by one agent that the maximum Assured Shorthold Tenancy is 3 years. Is this correct. I have looked at the .Gov.uk site that deals with these tenancies but cannot find an answer.

I would try asking this section of the forum House Buying, Renting & Selling
rather than the credit card section.
