Hi all,
I just took the FactFinder test and I think I might have failed
I got a bit panicked under the pressure! Plus I had loads of hard questions about history and football in the 1800!
Either way, it was a good experience (silver lining and all that)DEBT FREE SINCE 25.07.14!
Debt at Highest (November 2010) - circa £40k

I just got accepted as a Factfinder this week and started tonight. It's really slow so I used some time to fill in the self employed tax form. I'm nervous though in case I do something wrong.
What do I tell tax credits? I don't want that cash messed around if I'm not going to earn much. Do I wait a week or so and see what my average is? I'll only be able to do maybe 2 hours a day about 3 times a week so nowhere near 16 hours.
i think its more to do with the money that you make rather than the hours isnt it ..i did my forms a few weeks ago and nothing back as yet so not sure i did it right yetLearning to keep within budgets !

Regarding tax - read the first post on the Mystery Shopping thread. It's the same principle, and they cover it in detail there.
There are 2 forms to fill in now, neither is a tax return so you don't need to decide what tax you pay now. You need to 1) Register as self-employed 2) Apply for a small earnings certificate so you are exempt from paying extra national insurance contributions (if you'll earn less than the threshold, again check the MS thread for more details).
You can do part of the process online, then print and post off a form. It took maybe a month for me to get a letter back from Mr Taxman with my UTR (Unique Taxpayer Reference) which you need to keep as reference alongside your NI Number. I also got my small earnings certificate.
Then at the end of the (tax) year you'll do a tax return. You tot up all your income and deduct expenses - you should certainly deduct some costs for electricity/broadband as this is online work. You'll then have to pay a percentage of the remaining amount (your profit) as tax. I think the percentage is around 20% but don't quote me on that.
If you set up a spreadsheet now recording roughly how many hours per week/month you work, you can apply that 'pro rata' to your bills so you know how much to deduct.
