That depends on the car. Many cars have a plug and fit system at the rear, for tow bar electrics.
Fair point but the OP did say they had a Megane. See how much work is involved in changing a headlamp bulb on a megane (Something you might expect to do accasionally and Fifth Gear found dealers quoting up to £325 to do!) I hate to think how inaccessable a tow bar electrics socket might be0 -

I believe they are quite accessible. It was for the one I drove three years ago.The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

I was simply pointing out that some/most modern cars have intelligence that detects if something is connected to the electrical hook-up and disables the audible reverse aids from distracting the driver.0 -

ive got a 2002 megane scenic and had a tow bar fitted with single electrics for 154 quid same garage for a vauzhall mariva 2008 is 225 quid so can vary alot on cars.0
