Cost to get tow bar fitted?

If you have reversing sensors fitted, be sure to get a removable hook.
It's not so much the hook that causes any interference but a trailer/caravan that upsets the reversing sensors. However, most modern cars know when something is hooked up(through electrics) and can disable the reverse aid if programmed properly.

Do we agree that the sensors are not live until the reverse gear is engaged?

What would be the point of them otherwise?
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

That depends on the car. Many cars have a plug and fit system at the rear, for tow bar electrics.

Fair point but the OP did say they had a Megane. See how much work is involved in changing a headlamp bulb on a megane (Something you might expect to do accasionally and Fifth Gear found dealers quoting up to £325 to do!) I hate to think how inaccessable a tow bar electrics socket might be

I believe they are quite accessible. It was for the one I drove three years ago.

    Read post #12 properly.

In a normal set-up, sensors aren't 'active' unless reverse has been selected. In some cases the sensors don't work properly if a tow bar has been fitted, and in virtually 'all' cases the sensors become null & void and simply a nuisance factor if the car is towing anything.
I was simply pointing out that some/most modern cars have intelligence that detects if something is connected to the electrical hook-up and disables the audible reverse aids from distracting the driver.

Surely her responsibility and not yours.

Absolutely, but it was the day I was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer (all sorted now, fingers crossed) and was on the way back from the hospital, so I just had a look and said "Oh Well" and carried on. I think she was very relieved....lol.
