Update: 2.30pm 17 Aug. The RedSpottedHanky site is struggling due to high demand - we are currently speaking to it about this and the link will reappear here when the offer is back up and running.

I sat at my computer like a mug for 25 mins refreshing the MSE page every minute until the link became active; I then completed the RSH reg page and clicked on "Register".... and nothing happens. I've tried it in IE and Chrome with the same result. When I click the Register button, IE says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"; Chrome just reloads another blank form. This is really rather demeaning, making thousands of MSE-ers jump through hoops like lemmings. There has to be a better system - MSE please take note!

It's nothing to do with MSE. They attempted to minimized traffic by doing the offer in two seperate time slots and it still crashed the site. If they had done it in (for example) 4 times slots giving away 5000 each time you probably would of been sitting there attempting for 25mins refreshing more than once and chances are you may not of got one due to the smaller offering in one go. Thanks MSE for running the offer:beer:
  • OK well it seems to have worked now and I've received an email confirming that I've opened a RSH account. I do understand the point about waiting 72h to see the loyalty points and I guess that should be OK, given that the special MSE link did contain a promotional code in the URL, but if they could have included a mention of the offer in the email, it would avoid so many questions on this forum! Ah well - all's well that ends well... I hope...

Check your email. If it went through successfully you'll have been sent an email saying that you've registered. If it didn't work then try registering in a different browser.

Just finish my registration via MSE forum's link, does that mean I will get £10 even it's 2 hours later?

I had no problem in registering yesterday and got my confirmation email, no loyalty points in my account yet but its not been 72 hours. I'll be interested to compare Red Hanky prices with the Trainline who I normally use for booking rail tickets and of course the £10 discount will be very useful.

It staggers me that so many people still use the Train Line with its booking and credit cards fees.

Most train operators sell UK-wide tickets on their websites (Virgin, East Coast, South West, Northern, Merseyrail, First, etc.) without any booking fees at all. Some, such as Virgin and East Coast, offer loyalty schemes that can be used on tickets even when not travelling with that company, whilst South West makes regular appearances on Quidco.

And because they all use exactly the same booking system as Trainline, the prices are exactly the same (including the cheapest advance tickets). In fact, with East Midlands and East Coast, you get an extra percentage off their Advance tickets, making them CHEAPER that Trainline.

Why do people not realise this?!
