Budgeting Just Got Worse *Updated with SOA*

Further to my last thread http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=337095

Things always seem to get worse before they get better.

The car went for MOT today and has failed drastically, it needs over £300 work doing to it.

It will be off the road for many weeks to come so the new option will be catching the bus to work which will cost me and husband £10 a week each. I have no other available income to be able to afford the bus fares so it looks like I will be walking an hour to and from work each day in the dark whatever weather.

I just feel so miserable at the moment and so cross with my other half because he has not bothered to put any money away for this as was agreed on his CCCS plan.

I'm sitting here in tears and just want to leave

Hi bunnie - I feel for you. My car failed its MOT miserably in November and wasn't worth fixing (£300- £600).

Is there anyone at work who could give you a lift, even one way? I'm sure there is a car share scheme online that you can sign up to.

Anything you can pop onto ebay to get you a couple of weeks bus fare?

    Don't cry, we'll help.

If not joy on the car sharing, you could try freecycle for a bike.

From the other thread, it doesn't look like you ever posted an SOA - perhaps post it and see if there isn't something that could be done to find some extra funds - it's worth a try.

I asked at work this morning and no one travels from my side of town, to pick me up would be out of their way.

My other half just expects me to walk to work, it is an hours walk (on a good day - I have done it a couple of times) but now my hours have changed and I work sometimes 8am until 8pm. I would be leaving home at ridiculous hours and getting home at stupid hours too.

Also I won't be able to visit my family or do anything, I would just be stuck in the house.

On the first post, although not quite an SOA, I posted what incomings I have and what outgoings need to go out in the next 2 months.

I can't think straight at the moment to do one

I think a bike from freecycle is a brilliant idea.

can some of the money you would have spent on petrol go towards the bus fare? - also if its likely to be months a longer season ticket usually works out cheaper than paying a daily rate, thats if your local bus co do them - chin up

whilst someone suggested getting a bike off of freecycle, I have known in the past of people getting cars for free of there too. some even have MOT'S, you would just have to tax it.

Maybe your OH should give up something too, if he expects you to do without transport to work!!! Perhaps give up any beer/ going out he does, until the money is saved to fix the car!!

Are you getting all the benefits you are entitled to?
    best of luck

Would it be more affordable if you walked part of the way, then got a bus, then walked the last bit? I don't uses the bus often but I do use the tram in Sheffield, and the fares work out that if I walk down the hill two stops, I save 40p on my fare. I could make the same saving getting off early at the other end too. However, for me, it still works out cheaper to buy a weekly pass, so I save my legs.

    Thanks everyone

I think the main bulk of the problem here is I seem to sacrifice everything and he goes out doing and spending on what he wants without thought of the consequences.

He went out with his Dad at 2:45 and is still not back, doubt he will be back at all tonight because we had a row and he made me cry
