You can only ever go on personal preference, the idea that vertical blinds are a 'trend' makes me smile though, they've been up at my kitchen window forever (okay, nearly 20 years, and they've been washed now and then...)

Not mad keen on curtains but I'd prefer them to a blind in a living room - not just for show, they keep the heat in better in winter. After years of only having a roman blind in the bedroom I'm going back to curtains. Love the look of those curtains with eyelets that hook onto the pole, but seeing someone in action trying to shut them puts me off.
  • I worked as a designer for a company who did showhouses - we were almost indoctrinated that 'vertical blinds ONLY go in the sales office'.... So I suppose I still feel that they're a more office-y than domestic. I think they look best in a a modern or simply furnished room, and I doubt I'll ever fancy them myself, above all the other window treatments. If the room is large enough, I do love really sumptuous curtains. Failing that, roman blinds (lined or not) or wooden venetians seem to fit all manner of styles and periods. Wooden shutters, oh yes, but still can't quite afford them!

The venetian blinds in my rented flat are broken, and venetian blinds always seem to be bust. Same goes for the vertical blinds at work. I do wonder if better quality ones are more durable.

  • Window blinds have quite a few types and variety that allows you a lot of options. Different materials are used to make different types of window blinds. Various colors, patterns, sizes are available. The best part of a blind is the fact that it can be fitted to any size to cover a window or a gap in the wall.
